Your version of me
You dreamed of a better version of me
You molded me with your hands
Sculpted me with your words
Chiseled me with your tongue
Painted me with your eyes
And when the cocoon transformed
Into a strange butterfly
You wished to cut my wings
But by then I had absorbed your sins
And my feathers of steel
Learned to hurt you blind
Suffered the same ways in which you had broken my heart
In anger you burned your chisels and your brushes
And quickly realized
I was better as the roughed gem
You once said you had been blessed to find
