The dutch boy of the blue eyes
I’d like to tell you a story
About a handsome Dutch boy
That I really haven’t met
He has the most beautiful blue eyes
I have ever seen
And when he smiles
The whole world watches in surprise
I sometimes wonder about his dreams
Those he says he won’t remember
I’d like to wrap them up as a gift
Grant them to him in a sweet surrender
This Dutch boy from Venlo
In the big house by the green
His golden locks running wild
As wild as the heart he wears on his sleeve
I long for meeting him
Talk to him all night long
Discover if he’s ticklish
Shower him with love
This Dutch boy threatens to steal my heart
I threaten to steal a kiss
We play an innocent game of cat and mouse
He steers the wheel to a beautiful dream
And when the night comes I catch him in the stars
Like the little prince he is
Going around his planet
Watering his little rose
I’d like to take him to the beyond
Tell him stories about dragons and knights
Watch him wonder in awe
And hold him tenderly in my arms
There’s a Dutch boy somewhere in this world
Whose tenderness makes him ascend above all
He keeps a wooden horse that he rides
High above to the skies
I heard he was crying today
There was a tear in his clothes
I wanted to kiss him dearly
And with a magic needle and thread
Tell him stories to make him laugh
Anything for his sweet pearls
Anything to clear his sweet blue eyes
For he deserves all the happiness in the world
And all the sweets from all lands
For his joy is worth a thousand songs
And his pretty face all the treasures of man
I do know this Dutch boy
Well, I don’t, but I’ve heard of him so much
They speak of him in all the realms
And I’d like to close my eyes
And think of him smiling at me
For that keeps me going for whole weeks
I’ll meet this boy one day
I have a feeling very soon
I’ve thought of all the things I could say
But probably they’ll just disappear and be replaced
By a simple smile and a “hallo, you.”
